This is the last of these little guys for now. Moving on to other scenes. But I really like the hills in this one. I'm also happiest with these clouds. The balance just seems right.

Also, might I suggest that these all look pretty darn good together? If you'd like to purchase all three message me at sarahtuleart@yahoo.com. I will cut you a deal!

Another of my cloud studies. I really enjoy painting the sky over the lake. It reminds me of Northern Michigan where I grew up.

Close To Shore

"Close To Shore"
5"x5" Original Watercolor On Paper
To Purchase This Painting Please, Click Here,

I've been practicing cloud shapes lately. I have always struggled with painting negative space because you have to think almost backwards. You need to plan the shape from the outside in and it has caused me to scrap many a painting. This one, however, I was pleased with!

Pastel Sunrise #1

"Pastel Sunrise #1"
5"x7" Original Watercolor On Paper
To buy this painting please, click here.

I've been working on improving my skies lately. Which has led to a lot of fun experimenting. I really like the softness in this on and the strokes that stayed in the sky. Watercolor can be so much fun to work with!

The beaches of Northern Michigan provide me with endless inspiration. The colors and the scape of the land are so intriguing to me that I find a scene to paint where ever I am! Wouldn't you love to sit in one of these chairs for a while and just breathe in summer?

Sailing Into The Light

"Sailing Into The Light"
5"x7" Original Watercolor On Paper
Buy It By Clicking Here.

A friendly little sailboat, making it's way back home at sunset.
This painting gave me a feeling of peace while working on it. The blending of the colors in the sky and the dancing light on the lake's surface just soothed me. So glad to live in Michigan, surrounded by all of this water!

Also, if you're looking for a fun night out with some friends, how about learning watercolor? I'm teaching a class in St. John's Michigan on the 22nd!

Storm Coming

"Storm Coming"
7"x5" Original Watercolor On Paper

My husband and I recently headed up north for a few days to spend time with family. My husband's grandparents own a fabulous place on Lake Michigan. We were sitting out on the deck when this storm began it's way across the lake. I took several pictures to practice painting clouds and lake colors.

Campfire Couple

"Campfire Couple"
7"x5" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper
Available soon at Fuzzy Boyak Welcome Center in Munising!

Today is the day I am traveling up to Munising to drop off all the artwork I've been posting. The Munising Bay Arts Association invited me to join them for the summer and I am thrilled to have my artwork there!
This couple is unwinding from a day of hiking at their lakeside campsite by the campfire. I had a lot of fun changing up from what I normally paint. Mostly it was an experiment in light for me. I hope to do more like this one and am tossing the idea around of trying a larger version in acrylics.

Upcoming SOBO Art Festival

Sorry I haven't been posting.  The truth is this place is a mad house lately. My husband and I are moving and packing up takes seemingly forever. I'm also preparing for the SOBO Arts Festival on the 28th. It's held in Boyne City and there are many fabulous artists attending. Please come!
The images are of some local lake paintings I did. I've made them into 4"x4" tiles and will be selling them at the festival. They'd be great for a kitchen backslash, a hot plate, coasters or just for display.

Dune's End Mini

"Dunes End"
2.5"x 3.5" Original Watercolor On Paper

If you've never been to Sleeping Bear Dunes, you need to add it to your "To Do" list.
Last summer I was granted a weekend show at Glen Arbor Arts Association. While we were over there, my husband and I explored. We ventured all over the dunes, enjoyed the view, felt the sand between our toes.
This addition to "100 Tiny Views Of Lake Michigan" was relaxing to paint. It was full of good memories.
So was this past weekend. I was able to visit my grandparents on the farm where I spent childhood summers. I was able to laugh with my sister. I'm so proud of her. I know she's headed toward great things.

Morning At The Lake

"Morning At The Lake"
8"x10" original watercolor and pen on paper

I am so so SO ready for summer to be here. I have had enough snow and cold to last me until well into next February. Luckily, spring is beginning to show up. Kind of. Most days. When it feels like it.
All of this pining got me thinking about summer vacations and relaxing by the lake. Here in Michigan the thing to do is "go up north." If you live in Detroit, you might go up to the Midland area. If you live in Grand Rapids, you probably drive up 131 to Petoskey and Traverse City. If you live north of the 45th parallel you probably head to the U.P. We just keep migrating northward. It's our thing.
I was imagining a quiet, lakeside retreat where you can go out onto your own dock, sip a cup of coffee and relax in your chair as you listen to the loons and watch the sun rise, casting everything in a rosy light. The day is just beginning, it's full of possibilities.

From The Bay

"From The Bay"
8"x10" original watercolor and pen on paper

This is a view you would see if you were out on a boat in Little Traverse Bay in the summer. As you're coming into the harbor you'll pass our breakwall. The hilly town of Petoskey rises up behind it. Locals and visitors alike are enjoying the warm summer day by jumping off the end of the breakwall into the cool, deep waters of Lake Michigan.

Also, I recently switched out my paintings at Petoskey District Library. I brought in new ones so there's no more snowy pictures. If you're in the area head up to the second floor and check em out! I'd love to hear what you think!

Michigan Shoreline

"Michigan Lakeshore"
5"x7" original watercolor on paper

After a busy few weeks, I'm finally back to painting!
First up...a view of Lake Michigan's shoreline in the summer. I needed to paint a summer scene, something with lots of color. Winter is getting to me. I'm sick and tired of cleaning off my car every morning, of freezing fingers and runny noses. Of chapped lips and wet footprints tracked across the apartment. I know, I know....it's Northern Michigan in January. What did I think the weather was going to be like? Right? Ah well, I still miss the summer sunshine and the warmth of it on my skin. THREE MORE MONTHS!
 (I hope...)
In the mean time I suppose I'll have to be content with painting scenes like this and imagining I'm on the beach, toes in the sand, a bag of Sun Chips and an ice cold Coke in my hand. Can't you almost hear the waves?

Ice Fishin Buddies

"Ice Fishin' Buddies"
5"x7" watercolor on paper
$35
Available by clicking here

My Dad used to take my sister and me out ice fishing when we were younger. Sadly time changes things but I have all the fond memories and who knows, maybe when the lake freezes over (and I mean like a foot of ice. I am NOT brave enough to go out on anything less than that) I'll ask him to take me out again.
As for these two, they sure have set up shop. They have their buckets to sit on, all bundled against the cold, tip ups ready to go and now they're gonna wait with a hot cup of coffee.

From now until Christmas my paintings are all reduced in price. If you're interested in purchasing I have them all listed on Daily Paintworks. You can find me on there by clicking on the little slideshow in the side bar to the right or by clicking here.
