Beyond The Poppies

"Beyond The Poppies"

Our friends have made it safely past the field of poppies and are on their merry way to OZ!
I painted this for the Wizard Of Oz festival, held every summer in Ionia, MI. I'm going to make prints as well.
I'm planning to add a "Shop" page to my blog in the near future where you can directly purchase prints, cards etc. So stay tuned for that!

Close To Shore

"Close To Shore"
5"x5" Original Watercolor On Paper
To Purchase This Painting Please, Click Here,

I've been practicing cloud shapes lately. I have always struggled with painting negative space because you have to think almost backwards. You need to plan the shape from the outside in and it has caused me to scrap many a painting. This one, however, I was pleased with!

I've been working on improving my skies lately. Which has led to a lot of fun experimenting. I really like the softness in this on and the strokes that stayed in the sky. Watercolor can be so much fun to work with!

Watching The Bay

The beaches of Northern Michigan provide me with endless inspiration. The colors and the scape of the land are so intriguing to me that I find a scene to paint where ever I am! Wouldn't you love to sit in one of these chairs for a while and just breathe in summer?

Cheboygan Crib Lighthouse

"Cheboygan Crib Light"
7"x5" Original Watercolor On Paper
To Buy This Painting Click Here

This cute little crib lighthouse sits at the mouth of the river in my hometown. In the summer, boaters come in from Lake Huron to travel the inland waterway and the beach is packed with swimmers.
I was feeling a bit homesick so I painted this to help. It surprises me sometimes, how very much paintings are a result of emotion.

Have A Great Weekend Everyone!

Starry Otter

"Starry Otter"
7"x5" Original Watercolor On Paper

I've added an otter to my Starry Animals series! This little guy was hard to get the proportions correct on. I think he turned out pretty cute though.
Otters were always one of my favorite animals to visit at the zoo (still are). They're just so much fun to watch! They just glide through the water and always want to play. Who couldn't love them?

Prints and cards are available with this and other Starry Animals images!

Storm Coming

"Storm Coming"
7"x5" Original Watercolor On Paper

My husband and I recently headed up north for a few days to spend time with family. My husband's grandparents own a fabulous place on Lake Michigan. We were sitting out on the deck when this storm began it's way across the lake. I took several pictures to practice painting clouds and lake colors.

Sunflower Splatter

"Sunflower Splatter"
5"x7" Original Watercolor On Paper
Available By Clicking Here

I had a lot of fun the other day playing around with techniques. I had done a painting of sunflowers and wanted to jazz it up a bit. I think the splatter turned out well. It's different than what I normally do and was refreshing to paint.

I just love the bright, cheerful color of poppies don't you? The reds and oranges in these fun little flowers are just so vibrant. I couldn't resist painting them.

We Made It!

"We Made It!"
5"x7" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper
Available at the Fuzzy Boyak Welcome Center in Munising, MI

This was a fun painting to do! I've been working on drawing people (something I was never very good at) and I dare say I've made a bit of progress. These happy hikers have reached the end of the trail and are overjoyed with their success! They did it! They walked the whole thing!

Chapel Rock

"Chapel Rock"
5.5"x8" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper
$12.00

I did this little painting last night as a card image I plan to sell this summer at the Munising Bay Arts Association. I was invited to join them this summer so now you can find my work there too!
Chapel Rock is located along the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It is one of my favorite spots to hike out to. And if you're tired by the time you get here you can dip your feet in Lake Superior.
This painting was done in my journal so it's not on heavy duty paper like most of my paintings are. But if you'd like it, just click on the "Buy Now" button and I'll ship it right out to you!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

In the past I painted a few trout flies and they were well received. I've recently had some inquiries for more. These are two that I completed this evening. My favorite one is the top image.
