My husband and I recently headed up north for a few days to spend time with family. My husband's grandparents own a fabulous place on Lake Michigan. We were sitting out on the deck when this storm began it's way across the lake. I took several pictures to practice painting clouds and lake colors.

I felt like doing something new so I ventured out and bought some new art supplies. I have to say, it was a lot of fun to push acrylic paint around rather than doing watercolor washes. Not that I'm through with watercolors, but every once in a while it's fun to mix things up. I find that it brings some excitement and freshness back to my work. 

This painting comes unframed.

When I was in high school I worked out at Wilderness State Park near Mackinaw City. The park is quite large and there's actually a few sections to it. One of my favorite places was the dunes out at Sturgeon Bay. It's a fantastic beach and I've frequented it since I was very little. It's all sand and it's not too shallow and not too deep. Perfection. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a place to go this summer.

The beach by Charlevoix Lighthouse is a popular place to swim in the summer. I always like to go when there are some good waves rolling in, it's fun (and quite a workout!) to jump in them. In personal news:

Yesterday was my husband's birthday. We got to spend the day together and had a cook out for dinner. It was great!

 I was looking for a different way for people to have my work without buying wall art, so at the suggestion from Little Traverse Tileworks we turned some of my paintings into tiles. Pretty cool huh! 

The tiles are 4"x4" and are available for ordering. You can order multiples of one image or mix and match them!

Weather The Storm

Charlevoix South Pier Light sits staring out across Lake Michigan. A storm is brewing on the horizon. There is a sudden stillness before the wind kicks up and the waves threaten to break across the pier. Seagulls hang in the midst, searching for a refuge. A storm is coming.

Watch The Waves With Me

I love the colors of the sea and the feeling of the salty breeze in my hair. It's all very relaxing to me. I love being by the water. Guess I'm lucky I live in Michigan where there's plenty of it. Although, there's nothing quite like being by the sea. Which I'm sure is why this family is vacationing there.

Sunset Silhouettes

              On Lake Michigan when the sun sets, the sky turns gorgeous shades of pinks, oranges and reds. People crowd the beaches to take in the last of the day's light and relax as twilight turns the sky and lake into a kaleidoscope of colors.
