Storm Watchers

My sister and I went to the beach last weekend. It was beautiful at home but by the time we got there a storm was coming in. We jumped through three and four foot waves until we were too tired and came to sit on our beach towels. There were a few others left on the sand watching the dark clouds come across and the surging waters turn green with the coming rain.

St. George Slays The Dragon

My depiction of the great St. George slaying the dragon and liberating the people of Lasia. Next I suppose he'll unchain the princess and they'll live happily ever after. 

Lemonade In The Garden

                Its a dreary, rainy day here in northern Michigan. Its good though, we could definitely use it. Everything was very dry.

Come Sail Away

I went out onto the front deck this morning to find that the sail boats that took off from Chicago on Friday had made their way north to their finishing place on Mackinaw Island. The water was an intoxicating blue and the colorful sails looked cheerful on the horizon.

Trade With Me!

I've gotten caught up in painting ATCs....Artist Trading Cards. They're small, 2.5x3.5 inch paintings that artists all over the world trade with each other. It's fun! This is an example of one of mine, a little seagull on the beach.

Flowers on Wenniway

     I went for a bike ride this afternoon and pedaled past this gorgeous garden. It smelled soooo good!

Lets Go Boating

When recently driving past a lake, this scene simply screamed summer to me. The calm lake, the boats pulled out on the lawn BEGGING to be put in the water. It made me want to park the car, rush over to them and go for an afternoon boat ride. I didn't, lets face it, who wants to spend a summer in jail for stealing a rowboat of all things? But I did snap several pictures and envied the people who owned this great little spot. They really have it made.

     Tomorrow I'm participating in Mackinaw City's FIRST EVER paint out! I'm going with a family friend but if you catch us out in Mackinaw somewhere stop over and say hi! I'd love to talk with you, don't worry about interrupting me; the painting will still be there after we're done chatting. Anyway, look out for artists painting en plein air tomorrow in the Mackinaw area, hopefully there'll be several of us! 

Fisherman Sunset

Every once in a while I just start painting; no reference pictures, no preconceived idea, just a brush in my hand and a palette full of color. Sometimes these paintings are absolute crap, but other times they turn out like this...and I think thats kinda cool.

Also, I wanted to make a quick note that I received an invitation to have a one day solo show at The Art Cafe in Davison MI. I want to invite everyone to come, there will be refreshments and good conversation. It'll be the 4th of August, thats a Saturday, and I believe the reception will be from 6-8pm. A Daring Trip

        Over the holiday my husband and I took the boat out and went for an afternoon tour of the straits. While we were out, we saw several kayakers, including this one who claimed to be returning home to St. Ignace. I admired her determination. The Straits of Mackinaw aren't exactly "friendly" waters. I hope she made it back safe and sound.

Cleo

        A tribute to one of my favorite companions: Cleo. She loves to sit by me when I paint, eat, sleep, etc. My own personal furry shadow. The Tired Kayaker

      Just finished this painting that I'm quite fond of, of a kayaker who has grown weary of paddling. It's one of my bigger pieces at 10"x20."  This painting will be included in my September show in Kalamazoo entitled; "Great Lakes, Great Water."
