Trillium Blanket

            It may be a little late in the season but I felt like painting trilliums. Around here, the hills in the spring are just covered in them. The pictures I used as references to paint this particular scene were taken along M-119, otherwise known as "The Tunnel Of Trees." It was GORGEOUS the morning I drove through there. It was a bit chilly but the woods smelled crisp, the shadows the tall trees cast were perfect and all the color and filtered sunlight made me drool.

Kayaks On The Beach

Michigan is playing tricks on me. The weather changes so drastically from day to day that I haven't been able to put  my winter clothes away for the season yet. Now, I understand that Michigan's weather is never straight forward but a few days ago it was 93 outside and now its 47 degrees. Honestly! Get it together!

The reason I'm going crazy anticipating the great weather ahead is because I want to go kayaking! I could go out paddling in chilly conditions but the wind that comes with it would make it very difficult. So instead, I sit inside, staring at the choppy lake painting pictures of kayaks. Not quite the same thing but the paintings need to be done and I can't really go out today anyway. 

This little painting is for a group show called "Postcards From Northern Michigan." It opens the end of June and runs through July in Charlevoix. For more information on this exhibit and others where you can find my work, click on the "Look For Me" tab at the top of the screen. 

Below is my studio buddy, Cleo. She lays on my workspace, tips over my water cup and chews on my brushes, but I love her anyway. 

Giclee Printing

I have good news! I am now able to sell giclee prints! So for those of you who like one of my paintings but can't afford it this may be your solution! Instead of paying for an original you can buy a quality print for much cheaper. An 8"x10" starts at $40 and goes up as the sizes get bigger. Still, it's about half the price.

Good Eats

      For the summer I've taken on a job screen printing t-shirts. In addition to printing for tourists, we also print many of the local restaurants and bars uniforms. I was commissioned by my boss to mock one up for a restaurant called the Blue Water Grill and Bar. The design is based on a New England restaurant's shirts but fits in nicely with the cuisine that Blue Water has to offer. I hope they enjoy their new shirts!

D'Art For Art

My painting was accepted by Crooked Tree Arts Center for their annual D'Art for Art event! I'm so thrilled to be a part of this, hundreds of people will see my work and I'll be able to meet other area artists. My summer is filling right up!

WHAT IS D'ART?

"D'Art for Art is Crooked Tree Arts Center's largest fundraiser.  It is one of the premier events in northern Michigan and it is not your typical fundraising party!  It's a two-day event with a delicious arts and epicurean emphasis!

On Wednesday's preview, guests will sample wines from a variety of vintners from California, Oregon and Michigan, hors d'oeuvres from guest chefs, bid on special auction items, meet the artists and preview all the artwork for D'Art for Art.

Thursday's D'Art for Art begins with cocktails and featured hors d'oeuvres from guest chefs and continues with a seated gourmet dinner.  There are many wonderful items to bid on in both the Big Boards! our version of a silent auction, and the live auction.  The evening concludes with of course, "d'arting" for artwork!  Guests leave with an original work of art- over 200 artists participate in this annual event.
