We're back!

We're back!
It was a fabulous weekend up in Republic. The weather was amazing, the vendors, artists and patrons were all friendly and upbeat.  My husband was able to come and we turned it into a mini vacation.
The turn out for the festival was inspiring. People really seemed to be in support of it and word quickly spread. I was thrilled to make several new friends and was bestowed the honor of "Best In Show."
All in all I think it was a great kick off for Mining The Arts. I look forward to next year!

I'll get back to painting soon! Be sure to check back!

Morel Hunters

"Morel Hunters"
5"x7" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper

When spring finally comes in Northern Michigan (and it has!!!) people flock to the woods to hunt for mushrooms. Morel mushrooms more specifically. These little gems appear on local restaurant's menus, at roadside sales stands and everywhere else it seems.
Don't plan on asking folks where they get them though. If you know of a patch of these prized fungi you're bound to be keeping it a secret. A pound of them is currently going for close to $50. They really are a sensation!

I'm off to Republic for the Mining The Arts Festival this weekend. I'm hoping and praying for good weather and a good turn out. I'll post more when I get back!

Have A Great Weekend!

Dennos Small Works Show 2014

I attended the opening of the Small Works Show last night at the Dennos Museum Center in Traverse City. It was an excellent turn out, lots of people excited about art.
If you were unable to make it out last night don't worry! The show runs through the weekend, closing Sunday afternoon at 4pm. This is an excellent opportunity to pick up some gorgeous pieces of work for extremely reasonable prices. I hope you can make it!

Next weekend I'm off to Republic, MI for their first annual "Mining The Arts Festival." I've been working hard to get several new pieces done to take with me. Check back to see some of them soon!

This is a great opportunity to own an original piece of artwork at a great price. Everything is under $50!
The opening reception begins tomorrow evening at 5:00 and the show runs through the weekend.
I submitted 7 of my works to the show. They're matted to fit a standard 5"x7" frame.

Overlooking Superior

"Overlooking Superior"
5"x7" Original Watercolor and Pen on Paper

I'm looking forward to my Pictured Rocks hike later this summer. I started flipping through some photo albums from my past hikes and decided to do a painting. For this one I combined pieces from several different photos. That's actually my father's and my packs leaning against the tree. I liked the dappled light on them.

From The Shade

"From The Shade"
2.5"x 3.5" Original Watercolor On Paper

I like picnics. Packing up some sandwiches and heading off to a little spot with a great view. I'm looking forward to the weather getting just a bit warmer so that Tan and I can go and do that. It's just not quite comfortable enough outside most days. It is coming though!

Rocky Bay

"Rocky Bay Mini"
2.5"x 3.5" Original Watercolor On Paper

This is another painting for "100 Tiny Views Of Lake Michigan."
HOWEVER, this is the first one I've painted that is actually a view from the U.P. Ah ha! Mixing it up!
This little bay is along US-2. We found it quite by mistake one time while we were out for an adventure.
I get cabin fever. Year round, not just in the winter. Every once in a while I get the urge to get out and DO something. It usually involves a day trip to someplace I haven't been in a while. In this case we went to the Upper Peninsula.
I love making little discoveries like this. We ended up eating our lunch on those rocks, listening to the water.

I'm showing some of my tiny paintings at the Dennos Museum Center's Small Works Show in Traverse City.  The show opens May 15th with a reception from 5-8pm and runs through the weekend. Come find original works from local artists at great prices!

Sleeping Bear Dunes Mini Paintings

"Dune Slope"
2.5"x 3.5" Original Watercolor On Paper

"View Of Sleeping Bear"
2.5"x 3.5" Original Watercolor On Paper

Yes, more of my series "100 Tiny Views Of  Lake Michigan." Bear with me. I'm having a lot of fun with this series!
These two are also from Sleeping Bear Dunes. The first one is the view from the top and the second is looking back at the dunes from across the bay.
I liked painting the shadows on the sand. Simple pleasures.
