Seasonal

Northern Michigan is a seasonal place.
No matter the season, we're dependent on the tourists. In spring they come for the trilliums and to celebrate the greenery. In summer they come for the beaches, camping, shopping, sailing and open spaces. In fall they come to see the colors and in winter they come for skiing and snowmobiling.
However, usually after Labor Day things slow down quite a bit. The people don't come in droves anymore and shops slip into their off season hours. Some places, like the Cycling Salamander Gallery and Mackinac's Little Gallery close for the winter. It's a good option, saves money and makes them all the more special when they open again next spring.
The time of year has come for that so if you haven't been to these neat little gems tucked away in the north you should come see them! They're open for a few more weeks yet. They'd love to see you and you won't have to fight the crowds.
You can also click on the orange names under the photos to learn more about them.

Autumn is here! My favorite season of the year. The air is crisp and it's time to visit the apple orchard for cider and doughnuts. I love the trees in all of their glorious color.
Speaking of trees, if you've never done so (and even if you have) you should check out The Tunnel Of Trees this fall when you look for a spot to do a "color tour." A scenic heritage route that is about 28 miles long, enjoy trees in all their autumn splendor beginning just outside of Petoskey. If you choose you can travel through Harbor Springs, Goodhart and Cross Village all the way up to Sturgeon Bay Dunes along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Some stops that I recommend:

Three Pines Studio and Legs Inn in Cross Village
Sturgeon Bay Dunes Shoreline

If you happen to be traveling the route on a Saturday stop by Goodhart General Store from 2-5:30 pm to experience Goodhart Market Days. Local farmers, craftspeople and artists will be displaying and selling their wares and is definitely something to see. I'll be there selling recent work and tiles.
Come see us!

Sailing The Regatta

"Sailing The Regatta"
8"x10" matted to 11"x14"
$160.00
For sale through artist,
to purchase either email me at sarahtuleart@yahoo.com or call at (248) 977-0732.

The Red Fox Regatta, which is the subject of this painting, began back in the 1970's as a friendly social event between two local yacht clubs. Over the years things got a little more competitive and they began racing each other to the rendezvous point in Horton Bay on Lake Charlevoix, where they shared dinner at the Red Fox Inn.
Now a days it is an annual event with sailors coming from all over the Great Lakes to participate.
I enjoy watching the sailboats here in the summer. Seeing their white sails flapping on the bay only adds to the magic of living in this town.

Tiles!

From left: "Bright and Sailing," and "Coming Around"
4x4" clay tiles

I have tiles for sale!
Above are the two designs I currently have. They are 4"x4" and are made locally for me by Little Traverse Tileworks. Scratch proof, they are perfect for a new back splash, trivet, coasters or simply to display (there is a little notch cut in the back for hanging).
Could make a great gift!
The images are from original watercolor paintings that I did this summer of the sailboats out on Little Traverse Bay here in northern Michigan.
If you'd like one (or more!) they are $15 each. Discounts possible on larger orders.
Contact me by email at: sarahtuleart@yahoo.com or by phone at (248) 977-0732 to order.

Pennsylvania Park Gazebo

"Pennsylvania Park Gazebo"
Watercolor and Pen
5"x7"
Available at Northgoods in Petoskey
(231) 347-1775

I like sitting in the gazebo in the park and watching the rain on warm summer days. I enjoy the water drumming gently on the roof and trickling down the woodwork. Its a comfortable feeling for me.
The gazebo also plays host to summer concerts in the park, picnicers and wedding ceremonies.

I'm currently working on a schedule for watercolor workshops and classes for this autumn/winter. I'm planning workshops and/or classes in Petoskey, Charlevoix, Gaylord and Sault Ste. Marie. If you know of a place in your town that would host a workshop I'd be glad to come to you! Just leave a comment and I'll see if I can work something out!
When I post the schedule in a few days you can find the information under "Classes and Workshops" at the top of the page.

Also, if you'd like a commission for someone as a Christmas present this year now is the time to start talking about it! For brief info look under my "Commissions" tab at the top of the page. For more information or to ask a question email me at: sarahtuleart@yahoo.com or call (248) 977-0732.

Terrace Inn

"Terrace Inn"
Watercolor and Pen
5"x7"
Available at Northgoods in Petoskey
(231) 347-1775

The Terrace Inn and Restaurant is located inside of the Bay View Association here in Petoskey. It's an intriguing old building full of character.
In October I happen to know that the local paranormal society is hosting an event here. It's called the Little Traverse Bay ParaFest and it's quite a big deal if you're in to that sort of thing. Tickets are available by checking out their site here.
But on a normal day when you aren't ghost hunting, the Terrace Inn is also quite beautiful and relaxing. It's been around since 1911 and has been a popular spot with resorters. It's located in a beautiful wooded neighborhood featuring homes from the 1800's. The bay is just a short walk away and if you need some encouragement...so is ice cream :)

Happy Friday the 13th! (only one more to go in 2013!)

The Roast and Toast is a popular hangout here in Petoskey. EVERYONE fits in here; from the ritsy to the poor college student. It's a fantastic local melting pot.
They serve an eclectic collection of coffee and tea drinks, sandwiches, soups and so forth. The atmosphere is wonderful. If you're ever in the area I recommend it!

Lavender

"Lavender Hills Farm"
8"x10"
Available at Northgoods Gallery in Petoskey

"Sea Of Lavender"
9"x12"
Available at Cycling Salamander Gallery in Charlevoix

I have an affinity for lavender. I find the scent to be absolutely glorious and own several products from a local farm that features such luxuries. Lavender Hill Farm is one of my favorite places to visit in the summer. It's located on Horton Bay road not far from Petoskey.
The top painting is of Lavender Hills Farm's field. It was also recently featured in "Sunday Crush," a blog portraying all of the good things in life. Click here to see the article.
If interested in purchasing either painting please contact the gallery by clicking on the link below the picture. However, if you'd like to deal directly through me I can be contacted at (248) 977-0732 or by email at sarahtuleart@yahoo.com.
