In Front Of The Grand

A fine day for sailing on the Straits of Mackinac. These two boats are almost to Mackinac Island, the Grand Hotel in the background.

St. Anne's Harbor

When you take the ferry from Mackinaw City to Mackinac Island one of the things you'll notice as your boat pulls into the harbor is St. Anne's Church. It sits gracefully on the shoreline, surrounded by large estates.   From behind however, looking out into the straits, you can see Round Island lighthouse, another popular tourist attraction.
This painting is 5"x7" and will be for sale at Mackinac's Little Gallery on Mackinac Island later in September. I was recently accepted to the gallery and am looking forward to painting more scenes of the Island.

Coming Around Round Island

These sailboats are racing around the tip of Round Island in the Straits of Mackinac. Their sails are full and the water is relatively calm. It's a beautiful day to be out on the water.

I'll Leave The Light On For You

For a while I was on a kick for painting silhouettes. We're nearing the end of them now but they were fun to paint. This one is called "I'll leave the light on for you" and is available for purchase either by emailing me at sarahtuleart@yahoo.com or by bidding in the Daily Paintworks auction which you can get to by clicking here.

The Silent Seven

The Artistic Process...

SOLD

Thought it might be interesting if every once in a while I post the process of a painting. Since its been a while I figured it was time. This painting is called "Sailing Silhouettes" and will be included in my show "Great Lakes, Great Water" in Kalamazoo next month. It's a 5"x7" painting and took me about 5 hours to complete. The longest part I have to say is waiting for sections to dry so the colors don't bleed or run into another section. This painting was a lot of fun to do. I always love silhouettes.

The Reading Spot

In all seasons I tend to find myself looking for a spot to curl up and read for a while. I'm a big fan of books; the paper kind, not the digital kind. There's something about the smell of the paper when you open your novel and the way it feels in your hand. Its comforting to me to be surrounded by books. I have zillions of them stacked around my rooms.
This particular bench can be found in Harbor Springs. Its on private property and I was unable to read there but I thought it looked very comfy all the same and I hope the person who put this in their garden comes out to sit in it every once in a while.

With The Wind

Out on Lake Charlevoix there is always a plethora of sailboats. White sails dot the horizon and the shoreline for as far as you can see. Out there on the water the wind blows through their hair and the boat rides the waves and sends up a spray of water. I make do on the shore eating my sandwich and sketching them...I can't afford a sailboat. Such is life.

Sunset Silhouettes

SOLD

On Lake Michigan when the sun sets, the sky turns gorgeous shades of pinks, oranges and reds. People crowd the beaches to take in the last of the day's light and relax as twilight turns the sky and lake into a kaleidoscope of colors.

At The Pumpkin Farm

When I was a kid I always looked forward to our annual trip to the pumpkin patch. It took me a good hour at least to pick my pumpkin and then I had to lug it back to the car. Usually, this required Dad's help. Now that I'm grown I still try to make it yearly to get a pumpkin and carve it into a jack-o-lantern. Its always so much fun and baking the pumpkin seeds afterwards is great. When I have kids I'll carry on that tradition, until then its fun to watch other families on pumpkin day.
