Campfire Couple

"Campfire Couple"
7"x5" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper
Available soon at Fuzzy Boyak Welcome Center in Munising!

Today is the day I am traveling up to Munising to drop off all the artwork I've been posting. The Munising Bay Arts Association invited me to join them for the summer and I am thrilled to have my artwork there!
This couple is unwinding from a day of hiking at their lakeside campsite by the campfire. I had a lot of fun changing up from what I normally paint. Mostly it was an experiment in light for me. I hope to do more like this one and am tossing the idea around of trying a larger version in acrylics.

Grand Portal

"Grand Portal"
8"x10" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper
Available soon at Fuzzy Boyak Welcome Center in Munising!

This was an interesting painting to do. With the rocky cliff taking up most of it, I tried to make it interesting. The rock along the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is beautiful and full of colors from all the minerals. This brave little kayaker ventured out into Lake Superior to get a closer look.

Happy Hikers

"Happy Hikers"
7"x5" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper
Available soon at Fuzzy Boyak Welcome Center In Munising!

I really enjoy hiking and going for walks in the woods. It's peaceful and calming to me. It also fills me with inspiration and if I've brought my sketchbook or camera along I come home with a wealth of material for paintings.
A few years ago my father and I hiked a part of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Trail. We made it from the beginning at Munising Falls to Chapel Beach. The whole trail is 40 some miles long and I believe we covered about a third of it in 2 days. Some day I want to go back and finish it but in the mean time I enjoy visiting the highlights of the trail by doing day hikes.
In the painting above, these campers are in for the long haul and are dutifully headed to their next camp for the night.

Happy Memorial Day!

East Channel Lighthouse

"East Channel Lighthouse"
5"x7" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper
Available soon at the Fuzzy Boyak Welcome Center in Munising, MI

I've been painting a lot of lighthouses lately haven't I? Must be on a kick.
This one is the East Channel Light on Grand Island, just off the coast from Munising in Lake Superior. It is no longer a functioning lighthouse, as the light was reportedly hard to see from out on the Lake. Other lighthouses were erected nearby and this one fell into a state of disrepair.
It's still quite pretty to me though, and sits quietly in it's spot along the shoreline. You can see it if you take the Pictured Rocks Cruises that depart from Munising or the Glass Bottom Boat Tour.

Eagle Harbor Lighthouse

"Eagle Harbor Light"
8"x10" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper
SOLD

This is the lighthouse at Eagle Harbor up in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is my favorite of the Michigan lighthouses (and there are quite a few!) It's been around for nearly 150 years safely guiding ships into Eagle Harbor from the temperamental waters of Lake Superior.

I really enjoy the rocks up in the Keweenaw.  I know it sounds like a funny thing to say but most people think of rocks as gray. A visit to nearly anywhere in the Keweenaw Peninsula will quickly prove this theory wrong. The rocks along the Lake Superior shoreline come in a multitude of colors and textures. Near Copper Harbor and Eagle Harbor the rocks are lovely shades of browns and reds. As an artist it's fun to find all the colors that really make up the rock. That was my favorite part of this painting.

LOGO Design

I don't know if I've ever mentioned it before but I do logo design if you're ever interested. I treat it as a commission and we work together to come up with the best possible image to represent your group/business etc.
These are some of the logos I've done so far. They have been reprinted on all sorts of materials, such as brochures, letterheads and t-shirts. They make for a nice change of pace from a larger painting and it forces me to think in a different way. The top image is for a group called F.O.C.A.S. here in the U.P. They help people to get there pets spayed and neutered when they can't afford it so that there are less animals turning up at the shelters. The second image is for Copper Harbor Arts at the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula in the U.P.
Keep me in mind if you ever need a logo! I'd love to talk with you about it!

Have A Great Weekend!

Cheboygan Crib Lighthouse

"Cheboygan Crib Light"
5"x7" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper
SOLD

Above is another of the recent commission projects I received. This is Cheboygan Crib Light, located on the shores of Lake Huron at the mouth of the Cheboygan River.
It is the beginning of Michigan's longest chain of lakes and rivers called the Inland Waterway. If you're a big boater it might be something of interest to you! I believe most people complete the trip in a weekend but you could definitely make it a longer trip and enjoy all the little towns along the way as well as some excellent fishing!

A GREAT HUGE, MARVELOUS THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED US OUT!!! WE GREATLY APPRECIATE THE GESTURE!!!

Above is one of the commission projects I recently received. Pet portraits can be a great way to remember your beloved furry friends. I had a lot of fun painting this one, it's quite unlike any of the pet portraits I've done before.

Commissions Special

For a short time I am offering commissioned paintings at what I am going to call a "Pick Your Price Sale."
My husband and I have hit a financial bump (as seems to be inevitable from time to time) and are in need of some quick funds.
If you've been wanting a painting but the pricing scared you off this could be a great opportunity for both of us! Email me at sarahtuleart@yahoo.com with your commission ideas and what you'd like to pay and I will send you your invoice. No questions asked, no haggling. Whatever you'd like to pay! The only catch being that there will be no refunds offered after it is in your hands.
You will have our undying gratitude and appreciation!

Chapel Rock

"Chapel Rock"
5.5"x8" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper
$12.00

I did this little painting last night as a card image I plan to sell this summer at the Munising Bay Arts Association. I was invited to join them this summer so now you can find my work there too!
Chapel Rock is located along the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It is one of my favorite spots to hike out to. And if you're tired by the time you get here you can dip your feet in Lake Superior.
This painting was done in my journal so it's not on heavy duty paper like most of my paintings are. But if you'd like it, just click on the "Buy Now" button and I'll ship it right out to you!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
