Trillium Minis

I think I'm trying to wish spring here. Hopefully it doesn't come and go too quickly!
One of the things I always look for in the spring is the trilliums. These beautiful white flowers grow in the woods where I like to go for walks. They cover the forest floor, up the sides of hills and down and make everything look mystical.
These two little minis are headed for Northgoods in Petoskey this weekend!

"Painting Petoskey" Now on Amazon!!!

I am uber excited to announce that my book "Painting Petoskey" is now available through Amazon!
Over the past few years I have been capturing Petoskey and the surrounding area in my paintings. The collection grew to 40 pieces and at the prompting of several wonderful people I put them all together in a book! Now, you can reflect on your summer memories all winter long!
This would make a great gift for your up north summer home on the lake!

North On 119

"North On 119"
7"x5" Original Watercolor And Pen

M-119 is a huge draw to the area in the spring when the trilliums are blooming and in the autumn when the leaves all turn. I however enjoy it just as much in the summer months. There's less people driving along it and it allows you to take it all in.
M-119 or "The Tunnel Of Trees" runs from Harbor Springs Michigan up to Levering Michigan. It's a beautiful twisty turny drive along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Make sure you have time to truly enjoy it and maybe stop in Goodhart for a snack at their general store. (They have pie!)

Through The Trees

"Through The Trees"
5"x7" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper

The tunnel of trees is now green and lush. So very different from only a month ago when we were beginning to wonder if it was ever going to get warm.

"Going To The Chapel And We're Gonna Get Married"

"Holy Childhood Of Jesus Christ Church"
8"x10" original watercolor and pen on paper

When you're in downtown Harbor Springs, this beautiful church is impossible to miss. It's located at the end of Main Street and as you come through town it lays before you.
It's a popular wedding venue.

Summer Shadows on M-119

"Summer Shadows On M-119"
5"x7" original watercolor and pen on paper
Available at Northgoods in Petoskey

In the summer, if you drive up M-119 from Harbor Springs to the dunes at Sturgeon Bay there are beautiful things to see. Striking views of Lake Michigan, the quaint bergs of Goodhart and Cross Village, and all of the beautiful woodlands.
Late in the afternoon the sun falls through the leaves and dapples on the road.
Drive slowly, windows down, breathing in the essence of summer.

Wanted: Actual Spring-like Conditions

HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SPRING!

I recently discovered that downstate and elsewhere they are actually beginning to enjoy spring! There are rumors of grass and puddles and temperatures that don't require arctic apparel. This (the image above) is the reality here at the tip of the mitt. And there's better news: its supposed to SNOW this weekend. I think I may cry.

But! Trying to remain positive, although it is becoming increasingly more difficult, I continue on with paintings of greener times. Below is one of my new pieces, showing the the Tunnel Of Trees in the spring time with trilliums in bloom and leaves on the trees. It is available at Northgoods in Petoskey.

Breakwall Watchers

"Breakwall Watchers"
8"x10" original watercolor and pen on paper
Available at Pieces on Mitchell Street in Petoskey

This is a view you can see quite often at Bayfront Park in Petoskey. Across the bay is Harbor Springs. Sailboats populate the summer waters and people walk the shorelines looking for Petoskey Stones.
I miss summer. Can you tell?

Speaking of summer, I was chosen to be one of the artists for Lansing Art Gallery's Summer Camp! I'll be teaching July 21st-24th. I am excited to be working with the kids!
Registration will be open soon. Keep an eye out on Lansing Art Gallery's website

Tunnel Of Trees Mini

"Tunnel Of Trees" miniature
4"x4" original watercolor and pen on paper
Available at Northgoods in Petoskey

The tunnel of trees is beautiful at any time of year. Right now it would probably be quite difficult to traverse with all the weather we've been having but all of the snow laden trees are probably quite lovely.
Spring is on its way however and that means the trilliums are coming! These gorgeous little white flowers blanket the forest floor along M-119 in the spring and it is a must see! I can't wait!

I know it's not actually ski season yet, (thank God, I think it would kill me if there was that much snow already!) but I'm trying to stay ahead of the curve!

Autumn is here! My favorite season of the year. The air is crisp and it's time to visit the apple orchard for cider and doughnuts. I love the trees in all of their glorious color.
Speaking of trees, if you've never done so (and even if you have) you should check out The Tunnel Of Trees this fall when you look for a spot to do a "color tour." A scenic heritage route that is about 28 miles long, enjoy trees in all their autumn splendor beginning just outside of Petoskey. If you choose you can travel through Harbor Springs, Goodhart and Cross Village all the way up to Sturgeon Bay Dunes along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Some stops that I recommend:

Three Pines Studio and Legs Inn in Cross Village
Sturgeon Bay Dunes Shoreline

If you happen to be traveling the route on a Saturday stop by Goodhart General Store from 2-5:30 pm to experience Goodhart Market Days. Local farmers, craftspeople and artists will be displaying and selling their wares and is definitely something to see. I'll be there selling recent work and tiles.
Come see us!

Wequetonsing Mist

"Wequetonsing Mist"
8"x10"

Wequetonsing is a beautiful summer escape on the north side of Little Traverse Bay near Harbor Springs, MI. There is a boardwalk that runs though a gorgeous bit of forest near there owned by the association.
(Shhh! I wasn't supposed to walk there!)
But in the mornings a mist hangs low to the forest floor and you're enveloped in the quiet beauty of nature. Its very beautiful.
This painting is for sale at The Cycling Salamander Gallery in Charlevoix. To purchase this painting you can contact the gallery at (231) 838-6460.

Serene Sunrise

"Serene Sunrise"
5"x7"

I drove my husband to work one morning and on the way home I took the road that followed the bay. The sun was just coming up and it had turned everything a pink hue. The water was like glass and the reflections lay perfectly.

Trillium Path

"Trillium Path"
7"x5"

There's a section of the North Country Trail that I like to walk not far from where I live. In the spring, the gentle rolling hills are covered with morels and trilliums. Later, leeks grow. In the fall, the colors are impeccable and in the winter its the perfect place to ski on a peaceful afternoon.
This painting is a reflection of my time spent on the trail on a spring afternoon, before the trees have all their leaves. The sun is warm, the breeze is gentle and the birds are twittering away. I hope you can imagine being there.
This painting will be for sale at Northgoods Gallery in Petoskey. If you're interested in purchasing it please contact them at: (231) 347-1775. Alternatively, you can call me at (248) 977-0732 or email me at sarahtuleart@yahoo.com.

Have a great weekend! Get out in the sunshine!

May Manna Food Project Art Auction

"Trillium Closeup"

Spring is marked here in Northern Michigan partially by the arrival of the Trillium. One of my favorite things to do in the spring is to drive on M-119 from Petoskey to Cross Village and admire the beautiful scenery. The forest floor is carpeted with the delicate white flowers. So gorgeous!
This is this month's Manna Food Project Art Auction painting. 100% of the proceed from this painting go to help feed hungry families here in Northern Michigan through Manna Food Project.
The website where I hold the auctions is currently having some issues. To purchase this painting for $45 please email me at: sarahtuleart@yahoo.com or call me at (248) 977-0732. I'll try to set up the auction again later. Please check back!

Red

Earlier this summer I took a stroll through gorgeous downtown Harbor Springs. The yards and streets there are so well tended to. They look immaculate. I snapped several pictures of my favorite yards, porches and scenes (in a non-creepy way) and have slowly been painting them in my studio space when the urge strikes me.
I've found house commissions to be popular in the past, especially vacation homes. If you have someone who's hard to shop for this holiday season I offer this as a suggestion to you. They go over great and are about as unique a gift as you'll find. To talk about a commission with me simply call me at: (248) 977-0732 or email me at: sarahtuleart@yahoo.com. You can also check out the "commissions" tab at the top of the page to get a general idea of how it all works.
This painting entitled "Red" is 5"x7" and is for sale by emailing me or bidding in the DPW auction by clicking here.

Afternoon Shadows On Walloon

Walloon Lake has been a popular site in northern Michigan for a very long time. It was frequented at one time by Ernest Hemingway and there is now a "trail" of sorts to follow to see the places that he once counted as important.
This painting of Walloon Lake is from my experience standing on its shores, earlier this summer, with the afternoon sun creating wonderful shadows. To purchase, contact me by email at: sarahtuleart@yahoo.com.

The Reading Spot

In all seasons I tend to find myself looking for a spot to curl up and read for a while. I'm a big fan of books; the paper kind, not the digital kind. There's something about the smell of the paper when you open your novel and the way it feels in your hand. Its comforting to me to be surrounded by books. I have zillions of them stacked around my rooms.
This particular bench can be found in Harbor Springs. Its on private property and I was unable to read there but I thought it looked very comfy all the same and I hope the person who put this in their garden comes out to sit in it every once in a while.
To purchase this painting email me at sarahtuleart@yahoo.com or bid in the Daily Paintworks Auction by clicking here.
