Another addition to my Grand Hotel series.
This painting is based on photographs I took while eating my lunch one afternoon.

100 Day Project

"Arch Rock"
7"x5" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper
Available soon at Mackinac's Little Gallery on Mackinac Island!

While I was at the Mining The Art Festival over Memorial Day weekend I met a few women who really inspired me. One of them introduced me to the idea of the 100 Day Project.
"It can be anything" she told me. Intrigued, I asked more and she produced her personal project. Every day for 100 days she had made a special luggage tag. The theme of them had gone along with that particular day, her birthday, Christmas, a cookout etc.
I decided I'm going to attempt my own "100 Day Project." I'm going to paint and post for 100 consecutive days. I believe this will help me to focus and remain committed to my art and hopefully I will emerge enlightened in some way.
To kick things off here is my first painting.
99 more to go!

Round Island Rocks

Round Island Lighthouse graces the Straits of Mackinaw and is a popular landmark for tourists. If you take the ferry from Mackinaw to Mackinac Island, you'll pass quite close to here and be able to take some awesome pictures of your own.
I took reference photos for this picture from the shores of the Island. I like that it feels close when, in actuality I believe it's almost a mile or more away.
This painting is 5"x7" and can be purchased by bidding in the Daily Paintworks auction. To go to that auction, click here

Sailing Past Round Light

SOLD

When you come across the straits, headed for Mackinac Island, one of the landmarks you will see is Round Island Lighthouse. It was built in 1895 and served as a beacon for the straits from 1895-1947. In '47 it was abandoned and replaced by the Round Island Passage Light which sits across the channel. Round Island Light fell into disrepair. As an effort to preserve the historic landmark it was restored in 1995 and re-lit in 1996.
The lighthouse, with Biddle's Point on Mackinac Island forms the finish line for the Chicago to Mackinac Sailboat Race, of which I have painted several pictures.
This painting will be included with my work on Mackinac Island at Mackinac's Little Gallery. To purchase contact them by going to the link or stop by when you're on the Island for the fall color!

St. Anne's Harbor

When you take the ferry from Mackinaw City to Mackinac Island one of the things you'll notice as your boat pulls into the harbor is St. Anne's Church. It sits gracefully on the shoreline, surrounded by large estates.   From behind however, looking out into the straits, you can see Round Island lighthouse, another popular tourist attraction.
This painting is 5"x7" and will be for sale at Mackinac's Little Gallery on Mackinac Island later in September. I was recently accepted to the gallery and am looking forward to painting more scenes of the Island.
