Symons Mini

"Symons"
4"x4" original watercolor and pen on paper
Available at Northgoods in Petoskey

Symons is one of my favorite stores in town. But it is DANGEROUS to go into. Not in a bad way. They have sooo many yummy things to try that I NEVER come out empty handed. Out back is a cute little patio restaurant called "Chandlers" and it is an absolutely enchanting place to have lunch on a summer afternoon. And of course there's the cellar....its a wine cellar. Need I say more?
To find out more about Symons and Chandlers click here.
This painting shows Symons, on the corner of Howard and Lake Street in Petoskey. You can see Little Traverse Bay in the background.

Also, don't forget my work is currently being featured at Petoskey District Library. Stop by and check it out!

Have a great weekend!

Petoskey Breakwall Tile

"Breakwall Love"
4"x4" Original Watercolor and Pen On Paper
Painting available at Northgoods in Petoskey

It has been snowing here for the past week straight. The snow mounds outside our apartment where the plow cleared the parking lot are now taller than the lamp post. I honestly can't remember the last time there was this much snow. Though several locals have told me their stories about "the winter of '78." They have some impressive photographs; my favorite featured the road I live on with snowbanks so high you can't see the houses behind them. The road was a snow tunnel!

But despite the "cozy" weather I still feel the need to paint sunshine. It's what is getting me through honestly. This image was an idea for a tile. I'm not sure if  it will be printed yet but the little painting will be available at Northgoods in Petoskey.

Only 50 more days til SPRING!

Michigan Shoreline

"Michigan Lakeshore"
5"x7" original watercolor on paper

After a busy few weeks, I'm finally back to painting!
First up...a view of Lake Michigan's shoreline in the summer. I needed to paint a summer scene, something with lots of color. Winter is getting to me. I'm sick and tired of cleaning off my car every morning, of freezing fingers and runny noses. Of chapped lips and wet footprints tracked across the apartment. I know, I know....it's Northern Michigan in January. What did I think the weather was going to be like? Right? Ah well, I still miss the summer sunshine and the warmth of it on my skin. THREE MORE MONTHS!
 (I hope...)
In the mean time I suppose I'll have to be content with painting scenes like this and imagining I'm on the beach, toes in the sand, a bag of Sun Chips and an ice cold Coke in my hand. Can't you almost hear the waves?

Forest Hills Residency

Forgive my absence from posting I've been a busy girl lately!
On Monday I was in Ann Arbor setting up adult workshops for this spring with the Ann Arbor Art Center. Stay tuned for dates!
After that I came to Grand Rapids to fulfill my residency with Forest Hills Public Schools. In conjunction with my show "Simple Roots" this month at Forest Hills Fine Art Center I also got to travel to the different high schools and spend a few hours working with their art classes. We worked on painting winter scenes in watercolor. I was impressed with the results. Fun!
Don't forget, if you're in the Grand Rapids this Thursday you're welcome to come to my reception at Forest Hills Fine Art Center! I'd love to see you! It's from 6-7:30pm. Its free and children are welcome!
