Sweetheart Lilacs

"Sweetheart Lilacs"
7"x5" Original Watercolor And Pen On Paper

I woke up one morning last week to find that my husband had cut a bouquet of lilacs for me. He had also made breakfast. Is there any better way to start the day?
(No he hadn't done anything terrible. I checked.)
The following days our apartment was filled with the perfumed scent of lilac. I LOVE that smell. It's a comforting scent of summer. Much like Lily of the Valley.
Sadly, the lilacs wilted away and I finally had to toss them yesterday. I decided to preserve their memory in a painting. I seriously considered spritzing it with lilac scented body spray. Too much?

Mackinac Lilac Festival

"In Front Of The Grand"
5"x7"
SOLD

If you happen to be headed to Mackinac Island today for their annual Lilac Festival be sure to venture over to Market Street to see Mackinac's Little Gallery. I have several paintings available there and so do many other talented artists.
The Lilac Parade is at 4pm and is a must see! At the Fort you'll find a special musician on the pipes.
Enjoy!

Lilac Picnic

Every year on Mackinac Island, they have a lilac festival. People come from all over the world during these two weeks to take in the seductive perfume of these flowers. Many take picnic lunches as the couple in the painting have done. This small painting will be for sale soon at Voyageurs Trading Post in St. Ignace.

In other news, I just returned from a fantastic trip to Nova Scotia! It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited and plan to return several more times in my life. The painting material there was abundant and it got me outside to enjoy the summer by the sea. I plan to make a painting series, showcasing my travels there so stay tuned!

A Fine Day In Mackinaw

Painted this scene from the slope in the  front yard. My summer living place is absolutely gorgeous and offers many, MANY different scenes to paint. The colors in the ever changing straits, the sky, the shadows all keep me intrigued. Lilacs are plentiful in Mackinaw and the Island is having its famous "Lilac Festival" this coming week. If you're in the north I highly recommend heading to the Island to check it out. For information on the festival click HERE.
This painting is another that I'll be sending to Charlevoix for the "Postcards From Northern Michigan" show. For more information on that click on the "Look For Me" tab at the top of the screen.
Also, I'm very excited to announce that in this issue of the Graphic, I am the featured artist! You can check it out by visiting their website at  www.thegraphicweekly.com or you can pick up your free copy of the Graphic at many places throughout northern Michigan.
