Good Eats

      For the summer I've taken on a job screen printing t-shirts. In addition to printing for tourists, we also print many of the local restaurants and bars uniforms. I was commissioned by my boss to mock one up for a restaurant called the Blue Water Grill and Bar. The design is based on a New England restaurant's shirts but fits in nicely with the cuisine that Blue Water has to offer. I hope they enjoy their new shirts!

D'Art For Art

My painting was accepted by Crooked Tree Arts Center for their annual D'Art for Art event! I'm so thrilled to be a part of this, hundreds of people will see my work and I'll be able to meet other area artists. My summer is filling right up!

WHAT IS D'ART?

"D'Art for Art is Crooked Tree Arts Center's largest fundraiser.  It is one of the premier events in northern Michigan and it is not your typical fundraising party!  It's a two-day event with a delicious arts and epicurean emphasis!

On Wednesday's preview, guests will sample wines from a variety of vintners from California, Oregon and Michigan, hors d'oeuvres from guest chefs, bid on special auction items, meet the artists and preview all the artwork for D'Art for Art.

Thursday's D'Art for Art begins with cocktails and featured hors d'oeuvres from guest chefs and continues with a seated gourmet dinner.  There are many wonderful items to bid on in both the Big Boards! our version of a silent auction, and the live auction.  The evening concludes with of course, "d'arting" for artwork!  Guests leave with an original work of art- over 200 artists participate in this annual event.

Art Prize 2012

Artprize began three years ago as an experiment in Grand Rapids MI. They encouraged free thinkers and artists in all mediums to submit work to be displayed all over the town. I'm proud to say that I just submitted my entry for this years ArtPrize!

Back Again

 I recently finished this painting of Munising Falls. It's 9"x12" and will be shown with my collection "Great Lakes, Great Water" in Kalamazoo over the summer. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by the Barnabee Gallery in the Powell Library to see my paintings. This series is focused on all of Michigan's water and the many people that take advantage of the opportunities for canoeing, kayaking, boating water skiing, swimming and much more. My work at the City Opera House will be taken down on Saturday for those of you still wishing to see it. The series is titled "Lovely Leelanau" and was quite popular with the people from the area.

Perfect Afternoon

    This barn is located in The Leelanau Peninsula and the area in which it sits was so pristine that when I drove past I did a double take. I parked a short ways up the road and walked back with my camera and sketchbook.   Feeling quite the creeper I quickly drew up a few compositions and snapped several pictures.
Back at home, the barn and fields looked quite different on my computer screen. I decided maybe that the field next to the barn could use some color. So I added the family coming back from an afternoon of sledding. I think it made a nice addition.
This painting is one of the last few to be added to my series "Lovely Leelanau" to be shown at The City Opera House in Traverse City during the month of March. I invite you to join me on Wednesday March 7th from 5-7 pm for the "Meet the Artist" reception. I'd love to see you there!

Temporary Village

My apologies for the lapse in my posting. It's been one CRAZY month with many MANY things going on. I intend to play "catch up" as best I can.
This painting is the view at the end of my road. Temporary Villages appear on the frozen lake on weekends, hence the title. I wandered down there one day, following the snowmobile tracks and drew up some sketches to work from. It was a fun little painting.
I'd like to remind everyone of my upcoming show "Lovely Leelanau" in Traverse City this March. It will be hung at the Traverse City Opera House and can be viewed the whole month during Opera House hours. However, if you'd like to meet me, the artist, I'll be around for the artist reception on Wednesday, March 7th from 5-8pm. Hope to see you there!
